In week 11, the average prices of beef thigh and beef fillet decreased marginally compared to the previous week. The price of beef thigh was 201.2 thousand VND/kg, a decrease of 0.1% compared to week 10. The price of beef fillet was 228.3 thousand VND/kg, a decrease of 0.3% compared to week 10.
In week 12, the prices of Vietnamese beef at supermarkets remained stable compared to the previous week. The prices of beef products in Covifood were the lowest among the supermarkets, of which, the price of beef thigh was 220 thousand VND/kg, beef fillet was 270 thousand VND/kg, and beef shank was 240 thousand VND/kg. The price of brisket navel end was 258 thousand VND/kg at both Go Mart and Co.op Mart. In week 12, the prices of Australian beef were stable at most supermarkets except Homefarm where the price of beef shank increased to 230 thousand VND/kg. However, the price of beef shank recorded at Homefarm at 230 thousand VND/kg was the lowest amongst the supermarkets. The lowest price of beef brisket was at Go Mart at 285 thousand VND/kg.

In week 10 (Mar 4-8), the average price of beef fillet was 229 thousand VND/kg, which is an 8.3% increase compared to the previous week. The price of beef thigh increased slightly by 0.1% compared to last week to 201.3 thousand VND/kg.
In week 11 (Mar 11-15), the prices of Vietnamese beef at supermarkets were relatively stable compared to the previous week, except at the Go Mart where the price of beef fillet increased to 337 thousand VND/kg and the price of beef thigh decreased to 324 thousand VND/kg. The lowest prices of beef shank and beef fillet were recorded at Covifood at 240 thousand VND/kg and 270 thousand VND/kg, respectively. At Go Mart, the prices of Australian beef shank and shoulder clod fluctuated slightly. Specifically, the price of Australian beef shank decreased to 263 thousand VND/kg and the price of Australian shoulder clod increased by 40 thousand VND/kg compared to the previous week to 285 thousand VND/kg. Similarly, the price of Chuck Crest decreased to 299 thousand VDN/kg and the price of Beef Sirloin Hokubee increased to 828 thousand VND/kg at Home Farm. In week 9, the average price of beef thigh was 201.1 thousand VND/kg, a 7.8% decrease compared to week 8. This is also the lowest price since September 2023, at par with the price of week 1/2024. Beef fillet price decreased sharply by 8.4% compared to last week to 211.5 thousand VND/kg, which is priced 13 to 20 thousand VND/kg higher than beef thigh.
The price of Vietnamese beef at supermarkets remained unchanged in week 10 compared to the previous week. The lowest prices of beef fillet and beef thigh were at Go Mart at 319 thousand VND/kg and 333 thousand VND/kg, respectively. The lowest prices of beef shank and brisket navel end were at Co.op Mart at 376 thousand VND/kg and 258 thousand VND/kg, respectively. The prices of Australian beef at supermarkets in week 10 remained unchanged compared to the previous week. Pacow beef products at Winmart and Bach Hoa Xanh were temporarily out of stock after the Lunar New Year 2024. This week, Hokubee cube roll is still on sale at Bach Hoa Xanh at only 816 thousand VND/kg. The lowest price of Hokubee beef sirloin was at Homefarm at 789 thousand VND/kg. The total value of Vietnam’s livestock product exports in January 2024 reached 15.4 million USD, a 56% decrease compared to the previous month and a 4% decrease compared to the same period in 2023. In January 2024, Vietnam’s primary livestock product exports include fresh, chilled, or frozen pork (HS 0203) with a value of 6.1 million USD; processed or preserved meat and meat by-products (HS 1602) with a value of 4.9 million USD; and other fresh, chilled, or frozen meat and meat by-products (HS 0208) with a value of 1.9 million USD. During the month, Vietnam did not export live cattle (HS 0102). Most of the meat products exported in January experienced significant fluctuations compared to the previous month. Notably, poultry meat and by-products (HS 0207), whether fresh, chilled, or frozen, increased by 87% compared to the previous month. Processed meat and meat by-products suitable for consumption after slaughter, including salted, brined, dried, smoked, fine powder, and coarse powder made from meat or meat by-products (HS0210), decreased by 91%. In January 2024, Hong Kong and Japan were the two largest export markets for Vietnam, accounting for values of 6.9 million USD and 2.9 million USD, respectively. However, exports to Australia experienced a sharp decline, constituting a very small proportion of 0.003% of Vietnam’s total livestock product exports. Notably, during this month, the export value to the Japanese market surged by 108%, while exports to the United States plummeted by 80% compared to the previous month. During the month, Hong Kong was the primary export market for fresh, chilled, or frozen pork, accounting for an impressive 94.2% of the total value. Meanwhile, Japan received the majority of processed or preserved meat and meat by-products (after slaughter or processing)(HS 1602), constituting 58% of the overall export value, and 22.5% of exports went to Hong Kong. Additionally, poultry meat and by-products of the heading 01.05, whether fresh, chilled, or frozen (HS: 0207), were predominantly exported to China and Papua New Guinea, making up 83.4% and 10.8%, respectively. In January 2024, Vietnam’s total value of livestock product imports reached 159 million USD, experiencing a 1.2% decrease compared to the previous month and a remarkable 76.2% increase compared to the same period in 2023. In January 2024, frozen buffalo and cattle meat (HS 0202) with a value of 74.8 million USD were imported, representing an 11% increase compared to the previous month. Import of processed or preserved meat and meat by-products of the heading HS 01.05, whether fresh, chilled, or frozen (HS 0207) was valued at 25.6 million USD, experiencing a 17% decrease compared to the previous month. Meat and edible by-products after slaughter (HS 0206), with a value of 20 million USD, showed a 13% increase compared to the previous month. Live cattle imports (HS 0102) amounted to 15.9 million USD, marking a 7% decrease in January 2024 compared to December 2023. Fresh or chilled buffalo and cattle meat (HS 0201) had an import value of 2.24 million USD, falling by 14% compared to the previous month. In January 2024, Vietnam's two main supply markets for livestock products were still Australia and India, with import values of 25 million and 63 million USD, respectively. Imports from Australia rose by 98% whereas imports from India increased by 228%, and imports from the EU increased by 51% compared to the same period last year. Australia accounted for 82.9% of the live cattle imports this month, while Thailand accounted for 17.1%. India accounts for 78.4% of the Vietnam’s imports of frozen buffalo and beef meat. With an 85.2% share, Australia is the major import market for fresh or chilled cattle meat. In January 2024, Vietnam’s imports of livestock products from Australia reached 25.5 million USD, experiencing a 3% decrease compared to the previous month and a 61% increase compared to the same period in the previous year. Among these imports, live cattle (HS 0102), and frozen bovine meat (HS 0202) were the most significant items, with import values of 13.2 million USD and 7.3 million USD, respectively. In January 2024, Vietnam’s imports of beef and cattle from Australia reached 23.9 million USD, experiencing a 2.6% decrease compared to the previous month and a remarkable 58.9% increase compared to the same period in 2023. During the month, live cattle were the most imported product, with a total import value of 13.2 million USD, marking a 33% increase compared to the same period in the previous year. Following closely were boneless meat cuts of bovine animals with an import value of 7.01 million USD. Most other livestock products imported from Australia in this month also saw increased import values compared to the same period in the previous year.
In Week 8, the average prices of beef thigh and beef fillet both increased compared to the previous week. The beef thigh was priced at 218,100 VND/kg, showing a 7.4% increase, while beef fillet was priced at 231,000 VND/kg, with a 0.4% increase compared to Week 7. In Week 8, the average price of live weight cattle was 83,000 VND/kg, showing a 0.4% increase compared to the previous week. This is also the highest price week since the beginning of 2024. Regionally, the north witnessed comparatively higher prices than the south for both BBB and Charolais cattle. In Week 6 and Week 8, the number of cattle at feedlots remained stable, ranging from a minimum of 100 to a maximum of 8,000 animals. Meanwhile, at the abattoirs, the average daily slaughter ranged from a minimum of 5 to a maximum of 30 animals.
The price of fresh beef at the abattoirs remained unchanged between Week 6 and Week 8. Specifically, the lowest price for BBB beef in the Central and Central Highlands regions was 170,000 VND/kg, while in the Northern region, it reached a maximum of 190,000 VND/kg. The lowest price for local beef in the Northern region was 170,000 VND/kg.
In Week 9, the price of Vietnamese beef remained relatively stable at most supermarkets, except for Go Mart, where prices for beef fillet and beef thigh decreased. However, the price of Brisket Naval End increased compared to the previous week. The lowest price for Beef Fillet was at Go supermarket at 319,000 VND/kg.
During the same week, the price of Australian beef remained unchanged at most supermarkets. However, in Week 9, Go Mart was running a promotion with a 10%-15% discount on Australian beef products such as beef shank, shoulder and brisket. The lowest price for beef shank was at Homefarm at 219,000 VND/kg. In week 7, the average prices of beef thigh and beef fillet decreased compared to the previous week. The price of beef thigh was 203 thousand VND/kg, a 0.2% decrease compared to week 6. The price of beef fillet was 230 thousand VND/kg, a 1.4% decrease compared to week 6.
The price of Vietnamese beef at supermarkets remained unchanged in week 8 compared to the previous week, except for Go Mart, which quoted the price of brisket navel end to decrease by 8% compared to week 7 at 229 thousand VND/kg. All beef items at Bach Hoa Xanh were temporarily out of stock after the discount during the Lunar New Year 2024. The lowest price of beef fillet was at Winmart at 358 thousand VND/kg. The lowest price of beef shank was at Co.op Mart at 376 thousand VND/kg. The prices of Australian beef at supermarkets remained unchanged compared to the previous week. Pacow beef products at Bach Hoa Xanh were temporarily out of stock after the Lunar New Year 2024. The lowest prices of Hokubee beef sirloin, beef shank, and beef brisket were at Home Farm at 789 thousand VND/kg, 219 thousand VND/kg, and 289 thousand VND/kg, respectively.
In week 6 (Feb 5-9), the average price of beef thigh was 203.3 thousand VND/kg, an increase of 0.8% compared to the previous week. The average price of beef fillet was 233.3 thousand VND/kg, an increase of 1.8% compared to week 5.
During Week 7, which coincides with the 2024 Lunar New Year holiday, supermarkets were closed from February 12 to February 14, 2024, and resumed operations on February 15. Throughout this week, the prices of Vietnamese and Australian beef at all supermarkets have stayed the same compared to the previous week. Additionally, the price of Australian Pacow beef at Bach Hoa Xanh remained discounted by 10%.
In week 6, the average prices of beef thigh and beef fillet decreased compared to the previous week. The price of beef thigh was 201.7 thousand VND/kg, a 2% decrease compared to week 5. The price of beef fillet was 229 thousand VND/kg, a 0.8% decrease compared to week 5.
The price of Vietnamese beef at supermarkets remained unchanged in week 6 compared to the previous week. The prices of Fohla lean beef and ground beef at Bach Hoa Xanh continue to be reduced by 10% until the end of the Lunar New Year. The lowest price of beef shank was 376 thousand VND/kg at Co.op Mart. The lowest price of beef fillet was 358 thousand VND/kg at WinMart. The prices of Australian beef at supermarkets remained unchanged compared to the previous week. Pacow beef at Bach Hoa Xanh is still being discounted from 10%-15%. Hokubee beef sirloin has the highest price of 789 thousand VND/kg at Homefarm supermarket. Winmart supermarket has maintained stable beef prices continuously for 3 months from the beginning of October 2023. Vietnam's total export value of livestock products in December 2023 reached 35.4 million USD, an increase of 89% over the previous month and an increase of 101% over the same period in 2022. In December 2023, other live animals (tortoise, dogs, cats, long-tailed monkey,...) (HS 0106); other prepared or preserved meat, meat offal or blood (HS 1602); meat of swine, fresh, chilled or frozen (HS 0203); live bovine animals (HS 0102) were Vietnam's main export livestock products with a value of 14.3 million USD, 6.2 million USD, 5.5 million USD, and 4.4 million USD, respectively. In December, the export value of most livestock products declined compared to the previous month, except for other live animals whose export value increased sharply. Hong Kong and ASEAN are the two largest export markets for Vietnam. In 2023, the export value to Hong Kong was 71.5 million USD, while to ASEAN, it was 47.3 million USD. Although the export value to Australia increased by 41% compared to 2022, it only accounted for 0.05% of Vietnam's total livestock exports. In December, export values to the US and China saw a significant increase from the previous year. Other live animals (HS 0106) and other prepared or preserved meat, meat offal or blood (HS 1602) are the main export products in December 2023. Of which, the US is the main export market for other live animals, accounting for 97% of total export value. Other prepared or preserved meat, meat offal or blood are mainly exported to Japan and Hong Kong, accounting for 47.5% and 38.8%, respectively. Live bovine animals are mainly exported to Laos and Cambodia, accounting for 54.8% and 45.2%, respectively. Vietnam imported livestock products worth 161 million USD in December 2023, a decrease of 11% from the previous month and a decrease of 10.4% from the same period of 2022. In December 2023, meat of bovine animals, frozen (HS 0202) and meat and edible offal, of the poultry of heading 01.05, fresh, chilled or frozen (HS 0207) are the two most imported livestock products with values of 67.6 million USD (an increase of 0.1% over the previous month) and 31.1 million USD (a decrease of 9% over the previous month), respectively. Import of live bovine animals reached 17.2 million USD, a 24% decrease compared to November 2023. Import of meat of bovine animals, fresh or chilled (HS 0201), valued at 2.6 million USD, increased by 24% compared to the previous month. In 2023, India and Australia were the two largest livestock products suppliers for Vietnam, with import values of 524 million USD and 308 million USD, respectively. Compared to 2022, imports from India increased by 4% and imports from Australia increased sharply by 31%. Meat of bovine animals, frozen (HS 0202) and meat and edible offal, of the poultry, fresh, chilled or frozen (HS 0207) were the main imported items in December 2023. For the month, 87.04% of live bovine animals were sourced from Australia, and 12.96% from Thailand. For meat and edible offal, of the poultry, fresh, chilled or frozen, 38.02% originated from the US. Besides, 76.5% of meat of bovine animals, frozen were sourced from India. Australia was the main source of meat of bovine animals, fresh or chilled, supplying 79.6% of the Vietnamese demand. In December 2023, Vietnam's import of livestock products from Australia reached 26.2 million USD, a decrease of 21% compared to the previous month and a decrease of 9.3% compared to the same period of 2022. Of which, live bovine animals; and meat of bovine animals, frozen were the most imported products, with import values of 14.9 million USD and 6.5 million USD, respectively. Vietnam's import value of beef and cattle from Australia in December 2023 was 24.5 million USD, a decrease of 23.7% compared to the previous month and a decrease of 11.7% compared to the same period of 2022. In 2023, live bovine animals (not for breeding) was the most imported products, with an import value of 188.9 million USD, an increase of 79% compared to 2022. The import value of most other livestock products in 2023 decreased, except for meat of bovine animals, frozen: other cuts with bone in, which increased by 27%; and edible offal of bovine animals, swine, sheep, goats, horses, asses, mules or hinnies, fresh, chilled or frozen: frozen bone and other, which increased by 8%.
During week 4 of 2024, the prices of beef fillet and beef thigh increased over the previous week. Of which, the price of beef thigh was 205.8 thousand VND/kg, an increase of 1.5% compared to week 3; and the price of beef fillet was 230.8 thousand VND/kg, an increase of 1.4% compared to week 3. In week 4, the average price of live-weight cattle was 82.5 thousand VND/kg, an increase of 0.2% over the previous week. This is also the third consecutive week that the average price has been maintained at just over 82 thousand VND/kg. In weeks 2 and 4, in terms of the current number of cattle handled in the facilities (feedlot or abattoir), the smallest feedlot had 100 heads of cattle whereas the biggest had 8000 animals in their feedlot. Similarly, the smallest abattoir slaughtered 5 animals in a day while the biggest slaughtered 30 animals in a day.
The prices of hot beef at abattoirs remained stable betweek weeks 2 and 4. Of which, the lowest price of BBB cattle in the Central-Highland was 170 thousand VND/kg and the highest price in the North was 190 thousand VND/kg. The lowest price of local cattle in the North was 180 thousand VND/kg.
In week 5, the prices of Vietnamese beef at supermarkets remained unchanged compared to the previous week. Additionally, Bach Hoa Xanh launched a 10% discount program for Fohla ground beef, lean beef, and brisket navel end. During the week 5, the prices of Australian beef also remained stable compared to the previous week. The maximum price of beef brisket at GO Mart was 326,000 VND per kilogram, whereas Home Farm offered relatively cheaper beef shank at 219,000 VND per kilogram. In week 3, the average price of beef thigh was 202.8 thousand VND/kg, an increase of 0.3% compared to the previous week. The average price of beef fillet was 227.5 thousand VND/kg, a decrease of 0.4% compared to week 2.
In week 4, the prices of Vietnamese beef at most supermarkets remained steady. However, at Go Mart, the price of beef fillet increased by 37 thousand VND/kg compared to the previous week to 375 thousand VND/kg; the prices of brisket navel end and beef thigh decreased to 250 thousand VND/kg and 333 thousand VND/kg, respectively. Between January 26 and 28, 2024, Bach Hoa Xanh will launch a flash sale, offering a decrease of 36-40 thousand VND/kg for Fohla beef products, both online and in-store. In week 4, supermarket prices for Australian beef remained unchanged compared to the previous week. Bach Hoa Xanh still maintains discounted prices for Pacow beef products for the Lunar New Year 2024. In week 2, 2024, the average price of beef thigh was 202.2 thousand VND/kg, an increase of 0.6% compared to the previous week. This is also the second consecutive week of increase since the sharp decrease starting in week 39, 2023. The average price of beef fillet was 228.3 thousand VND/kg, an increase of 7.9% compared to week 1,2024.
In week 3, the price of Vietnamese beef at supermarkets was relatively stable compared to the previous week, except at Go Mart where the price of beef fillet decreased by 20 thousand VND/kg to 338 thousand VND/kg. The prices of Australian beef at supermarkets remained unchanged compared to the previous week. Bach Hoa Xanh supermarket continued the discount program ahead of the Lunar New Year 2024, offering reductions of 10 - 15% depending on items. |
