Bi-weekly beef and cattle market update from Vietnam (March 4-15, 2024)

In week 10 (Mar 4-8), the average price of beef fillet was 229 thousand VND/kg, which is an 8.3% increase compared to the previous week. The price of beef thigh increased slightly by 0.1% compared to last week to 201.3 thousand VND/kg.

• The average price in week 10 of live-weight cattle was 82.7 thousand VND/kg, an increase of 0.1% compared to the previous week.
• For local cattle, in week 10, the lowest price was recorded in Central-Highland at 60 thousand VND/kg, while the highest price was in the North at 73 thousand VND/kg. For BBB cattle, the lowest price was recorded in the South at 72 thousand VND/kg, whereas the highest price was in the North at 83 thousand VND/kg.

In week 11 (Mar 11-15), the prices of Vietnamese beef at supermarkets were relatively stable compared to the previous week, except at the Go Mart where the price of beef fillet increased to 337 thousand VND/kg and the price of beef thigh decreased to 324 thousand VND/kg. The lowest prices of beef shank and beef fillet were recorded at Covifood at 240 thousand VND/kg and 270 thousand VND/kg, respectively.

At Go Mart, the prices of Australian beef shank and shoulder clod fluctuated slightly. Specifically, the price of Australian beef shank decreased to 263 thousand VND/kg and the price of Australian shoulder clod increased by 40 thousand VND/kg compared to the previous week to 285 thousand VND/kg. Similarly, the price of Chuck Crest decreased to 299 thousand VDN/kg and the price of Beef Sirloin Hokubee increased to 828 thousand VND/kg at Home Farm.
