Weekly cattle and beef market update from Vietnam (February 5-9, 2024)

In week 6, the average prices of beef thigh and beef fillet decreased compared to the previous week. The price of beef thigh was 201.7 thousand VND/kg, a 2% decrease compared to week 5. The price of beef fillet was 229 thousand VND/kg, a 0.8% decrease compared to week 5.

• In week 6, the average price of live-weight cattle was 82.3 thousand VND/kg, a decrease of 0.2% compared to the previous week.
• According to local traders, prices of BBB cattle and Charolais cattle in the South were lower than in the North. Specifically, in week 6, the price of BBB cattle in the South was 72-76 thousand VND/kg, while the price in the North was 78-85.5 thousand VND/kg. And the price of Charolais cattle in the South was 68-70 thousand VND/kg, while the price in the North was 75-78 VND/kg.

The price of Vietnamese beef at supermarkets remained unchanged in week 6 compared to the previous week. The prices of Fohla lean beef and ground beef at Bach Hoa Xanh continue to be reduced by 10% until the end of the Lunar New Year. The lowest price of beef shank was 376 thousand VND/kg at Co.op Mart. The lowest price of beef fillet was 358 thousand VND/kg at WinMart. 

The prices of Australian beef at supermarkets remained unchanged compared to the previous week. Pacow beef at Bach Hoa Xanh is still being discounted from 10%-15%. Hokubee beef sirloin has the highest price of 789 thousand VND/kg at Homefarm supermarket. Winmart supermarket has maintained stable beef prices continuously for 3 months from the beginning of October 2023.
